Catherine Phipps has a BA (Hons) in Physical Education and Sports Coaching from York St. John University, and is currently completing her PhD at the University of Greenwich. She regularly teaches sports development, sociology of sport, and PE/sports coaching at the University of Greenwich and Syracuse University London. Catherine’s research interests include violence in sport, as well as LGBTQ+ and women’s sports participation. In particular, her past research has investigated women’s experiences in combat sports including mixed martial arts and Muay Thai. Catherine is a competitive boxer, with past experience in a variety of other martial arts, as well as running and powerlifting. ​
