Student Life Arrival FAQs

Where is my residence and what is it like?
The student apartments for DBS are provided by an independent student accommodations company. They are located a short distance from the DBS buildings. If you choose to walk, it will take you approximately 25 minutes. If you opt to take a bus (#37 or #39) or a Luas tram, a 5 – 10 minute ride gets you to O’Connell Street, which is a 10 minute walk away from the DBS buildings.
Each apartment typically contains 3-4 private single bedrooms with a sink, with a shared bathroom and living/dining/kitchen area. The apartment is fully furnished (beds, wardrobe, TV, sofa, etc), and the kitchen is equipped with utensils such as cookware, silverware and dishes. Each bedroom also has private study facilities with a non-wireless internet access point.
Is bed linen provided?
You will be provided with a comforter (duvet) and pillows; however, you will need your own linen, pillowcases and towels. You may choose to bring some with you from home, or you can buy some when you arrive.
Where can I buy linen and towels?
Penneys, an inexpensive department store, is a popular option for buying linen and towels. There are two in Dublin, one located at 47 Mary Street, and another located on O’Connell Street. Guineys and Dunnes are two other department stores in the city centre that sell linen and towels fairly inexpensively. (Keep in mind that most shops close around 6:00pm, so depending on when you arrive, you may need to have at least one towel for your first couple of days in your apartment).
Where can I buy phone cards to call home?
International phone cards can be purchased at most newsagents, corner shops, and grocers. Try Centra or Spar in the City Centre. Please note that phone cards purchased in the States with 1 800 numbers may not work abroad.
When do our classes start?
You will receive program dates during the semester leading up to your departure, and will arrange your course schedule after you arrive.
Where should we go out on our first night?
Temple Bar – where there is a variety of pubs, restaurants, and live music venues – is a popular area for students.
Where is the closest library?
Students can use the DBS Main library, located on the second floor of the 13-14 Aungier Street building.
