Get Fit
Please see some suggestions below from the Student Life office as to how you can maintain an active and healthy lifestyle whilst on your semester/quarter abroad.
FIE has a relationship with Club Kensington – a local member only gym. This swanky place has a special offer for all FIE students so if you want to make the most out of a membership gym then this is the place to look for the best value rates plus goodies such as free personal training sessions, sunbed vouchers and discounts on beauty treatments in the spa!
The most affordable option, as an alternative to committing to a membership, is the Kensington Leisure Centre. This is a fitness centre run by the local council, and thus no membership is needed. You just pay as you go or a leisure pass scheme is available to make each visit significantly cheaper so you may wish to enquire about that.
Joining a sports/fitness society with your Imperial College Union Membership* is a good way to keep fit. These may cost a small membership fee but it is much cheaper than joining a gym! Please refer to Imperial College Union Membership section in this book.
Go for a run! There are some great routes to run in London if the weather is good, through the many parks or along the multiple canals. This option is free, and it’s also another great way to explore the city.
Go for a walk! Get a route map between any two points, including your journey time, calorie burn, step count and carbon saving. It’s quick, free, healthy and green.
Here is a list of some other well known gyms in the area:
- David Lloyd
- L.A. Fitness
- Virgin Active Healthclub
- Fitness First
- Soho Gym Earls Court
Club Sports!
Why not join up to a local sports club or team whilst you’re here? A great place to find listings is the popular Gumtree (a little like Craigslist).
