Madrid Extra-Curricular Events
Whatever your interests, the varied extra-curricular program coordinated by FIE’s resident director offers a wide range of activities (some of which are included in the program fee and some of which are optional extras), including:
- Visits to museums and galleries including El Prado, Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Museo Thyssen Bornemisza, and Museo Sorolla
- Musical Concerts
- Flamenco dancing
- Zarzuela, a mini-Spanish opera and part of a 17th-century tradition
- Bullfights
- Tours of the Retiro Park and the Botanical Garden
- Theater trips
- Drama workshops with UEM students
- Spanish cooking classes
- Wine tastings
- Spanish film series
- Popular fiestas in Villaviciosa de Odón in September and in January
- Optional trips with Spanish students to discover the diversity of Spain, such as La Mancha de Don Quijote and Almodóvar, León , the Picos de Europa and Asturias, the Basque Country-Bilbao and San Sebastián, Andalucía-Córdoba, Sevilla and Granada, Cataluña- -Barcelona and Figueres, to visit Picasso’s and Salvador Dalí’s Museums.
- Visits to the Spanish Stock Market, to the Santander Group’s Financial City, to the Bank of Spain, to the newspaper El País, to the Spanish Congress and Senate.
In addition to the organized FIE extra-curricular program, students are encouraged to attend the many student activities and social events organized by UEM’s own students. Students have the opportunity to join one of the numerous UEM clubs, to participate in inter-university and federated or internal sports competition and to sign up for one of the organized and guided sports activities available at the University Sports Complex. The Theatre Group Ingenious, the Contemporary Dance Workshop Jacarandá, the International Club and the Music Club are only a few examples of the activities for FIE students to interact with UEM students.
UEM’s Social Responsibility Program organizes activities for students in the following areas: environment, volunteers and cooperation, professional ethics, awareness of human rights, commitment to social justice and the understanding that diversity is a prominent value in society. Students will gain a real insight into the culture and values of the Spanish people.
FIE students have full access to the University’s exceptional campus athletic facilities including outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor beach volleyball court, a multi-purpose synthetic sports field, and a sports complex with a fully-equipped gym, swimming pool, and exercise and sports hall.
