On Arrival in Madrid
At the outset of each program, FIE’s Resident Director coordinates a comprehensive orientation to familiarize students with the program, Madrid and Spanish culture.
The orientation is included in the program fee, and typically includes:
- A bus tour of Madrid.
- A walking tour of the main areas (Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, and others).
- Practical presentations on transport, shopping, money, etc.
- Presentations on Spanish Culture and an overview of Spanish Civilization.
- A visit to the Prado Museum.
- A visit to the Reina Sofía Museum.
- A fun welcome party that includes trying different Spanish tapas at two of the recently refurbished traditional Spanish markets, San Miguel near the Plaza Mayor and San Antón in the trendy neighborhood of Chueca. San Miguel, designed by Eiffel, is one of Madrid’s earliest and prettiest markets. Markets are an important part of Madrid’s heritage.
