FIE is currently seeking qualified, confident and reliable applicants for the following part-time, permanent position . The position is live-in, and based in a student residence hall located in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, where the successful candidate will be responsible for providing pastoral care to undergraduate students.


Job Title: Residence Life Supervisor (RLS)
Location: London, Kensington and Chelsea
Salary: £8,050 gross, per annum, from which £1,613.50 gross will be deducted per annum for subsidised accommodation in a student residence in London
Start Date: 5th January 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter), with induction and training anticipated to take place 5th – 12th January 2022

Job Summary:
The Residence Life Supervisor’s key responsibilities are to promote and support FIE’s Residence Life mission, providing a welcoming and inclusive living and learning environment for students. The RLS will act as first point of contact for students, offering guidance and support, and assist students during emergent residence and community concerns and emergencies as/when they arise.

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
• Undergraduate Degree or equivalent
• Experience working with students and/or in a people-centred role
• Strong intercultural and interpersonal communication skills, with a student-centred philosophy
• Ability to work under pressure and to use initiative
• Sound judgement and ability to determine the level of seriousness of a situation
• Excellent administrative, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
• Competence in working both independently and within a team environment
• A broad knowledge of London as an educational and social resource
• A good knowledge of the US and its people 

Desired Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
• Experience working with first year and undergraduate students
• Knowledge of and experience in residence life and/or student services
• Crisis management skills

Job Summary: The Administration Manager is tasked with overseeing the Front Office of our main teaching building and coordinating the high-quality delivery of services and ensure its efficient day to day running;
coordinating preparations for arrival, registration and orientation of programs; assisting with and development of FIE’s Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle), as well as advising on e-learning strategy and development.  The incumbent will be responsible for issuing, grade reporting and issuing of FIE transcripts and providing leadership on Accessibility across FIE’s programmes and locations.


Required Qualifications/Experience:
• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Experience of working in a busy office environment
• Experience of working with students and/or in customer-service
• Experience of working with Virtual Learning Environments and in-house databases

FIE London is currently seeking to contract a qualified, enthusiastic, and confident sessional instructor to teach an undergraduate course on Food, Society, and Culture in Britain: From Traditional Tastes to Contemporary Concerns in the spring 2022 semester. The ideal instructor will have a PhD (or be near to completion) in a directly related field (food studies, sociology, anthropology, and/or history) and have experience of teaching at the undergraduate level. FIE classes are delivered to undergraduates from a variety of institutions, predominantly American universities. The ideal candidate will therefore have experience teaching American university undergraduates at a range of levels. Faculty are responsible for all aspects of course preparation, teaching, and assessment.

The essence of FIE's teaching and learning strategy lies in using the location of London in creative ways to enable students to develop subject-specific and intercultural competencies. We are interested in experiential education, which may be achieved through research projects and independent studies, academic internships, and service internship placements. We assist our students to become more reflective and to develop their analytical and presentational skills. By understanding a foreign culture, students should gain new perspectives on their own. Therefore, anyone who teaches a subject with us would have to be willing and able to incorporate field trips, site visits, guest lectures, and other experiential components as part of their teaching delivery strategy.

We are currently recruiting for a course being offered on Food, Society, and Culture in Britain: From Traditional Tastes to Contemporary Concerns.

 

Hours for course: 42 contact hours
Pay for this course: £3,450
Term dates: The course will begin week commencing 10 January 2022. It is still to be confirmed if this course will be taught over 7 weeks (meeting twice a week) or 14 weeks (meeting once a week).

This course focuses on the complex relationships between food and cuisine and society and culture and how they shape and influence each other. Drawing from the disciplines of food studies, intercultural communication, anthropology, and sociology, students have the opportunity to engage with food as culture – in theory and in practice. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, this course examines the critical issues in food today and the interconnectedness of food, culture, and society in modern Britain.  The rich and multicultural heritage of London provides a multitude of opportunities to explore the issues herein and use our senses to taste, smell and see the food cultures of this dynamic city.

This course combines theoretical studies of social psychology with practical and experiential work and the objective is to consider social psychology in terms of international relationships in order to explore how different cultures and continents think and behave (particularly in light of increasing ease of communication via television and the Internet).

This is a dynamic course which attempts to be relevant to current events worldwide including such topics as global demographics in relation to the Earth’s increasingly limited resources, the evolution of national identities, the role of prejudice and discrimination, factors that contribute to social compliance as opposed to social unrest as well as the impact of the Internet and social media. An experiential research project allows students to adapt their major area of interest within a social and psychological context. This study is expected to help students to develop multicultural insights as part of on-going training in the social sciences.
