One of the reasons you probably chose to study abroad was to travel, right?! Many students try and tick off as many countries as possible during their time in Dublin, while others choose to explore the city in-depth and stay local. Just remember you may have classes or your internship Monday - Friday from 9 am - 5:00 pm so please don't make travel plans until you after you arrive in Dublin. There are many amazing world heritage sites, museums, theatres, and places of natural beauty you can see without ever leaving Dublin or Ireland!

You’ve chosen to study abroad in Dublin, so don’t forget to see as much of the city as you can! Explore the history and art of our National Museums (most of which are free to visit), the traditional culture of Temple Bar, and the wild deer in Phoenix Park. This video guide from Visit London and this Dublin Bucket List by The Independent are a great introduction to the city’s popular hotspots.

  • Belfast - The capital city of Northern Ireland and the birthplace of the Titanic, Belfast is a hub for culture, arts, and nightlife
  • Cork – A university city located on Ireland’s Southwest coast, home to the infamous Blarney Stone.
  • Donegal – Known worldwide for it’s surfing opportunities and glorious coastline, it is a beautiful county to visit for a weekend
  • Galway – Galway sits on the West Coast, where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. Home to a vibrant night life and traditional Irish music, arts and crafts
  • Kerry – Visit the popular Ring of Kerry and rive around the scenic Iveragh Peninsula
  • Wicklow – A short drive from Dublin, Wicklow is home to the breath-taking natural attraction that is Glendalough, and Powerscourt Waterfall and Gardens. The area is known for it’s mountains, popular with hikers, and it’s country estates.

Check out our range of travel books in the FIE Office in Block D - you’re welcome to borrow them to help plan your travels!

Chelsea & Westminster Hospital

369 Fulham Road, London, SW10 9NH

St Mary's Hospital

Praed Street, London, W2 1NY

If you go to A&E or are otherwise hospitalized, please notify FIE as soon as possible so that we can best support so. You can do so by calling our 24 hour emergency number: +44 (0)207 808 0131.

You should also notify your insurance provider as soon as possible - if you are covered by FIE's group travel insurance policy with Endsleigh, all policy documents are available here.

A&E services are exempt from charges so are free - this does not include emergency treatment if admitted to hospital. Click here for further information about accessing NHS services as a visitor.

Click here for more information on when to go to A&E.

NHS 111

NHS 111 is a free service that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can help if you have an urgent medical problem and you are not sure what to do.

Click here to access their service online or dial 111 from a phone. You will be asked questions about your symptoms via the website or by a fully trained advisor over the phone.

You will either be giving self-care advice, be connected to a service that can help you or, depending on the situation, be given an arrival time to go to A&E.

Click here for more information when to use NHS 111.

For urgent medical attention that is not life-threatening, you may be able to be seen at an Urgent Treatment Centre operated by the NHS. Two of the closest centres to the FIE Kensington Campus are located at:

Click here for more information on when to use NHS Urgent Treatment Centres.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, most centres remain closed to walk-in patients, but you may be referred to one by NHS 111 or a General Practitioner.

GPs treat a range of conditions and you may need to see a GP for consultation, treatment, or to be referred on to a specialist. FIE has a relationship with two GP services; DocTap and Emperor's Gate.

DocTap is a private GP service offering same and next day appointments at any of their clinics across London. Two of the closest clinics to the FIE Kensington Campus are located at:

DocTap High Street Kensington

Regus, 1st Floor, 239 Kensington High Street, London W8 6SN

DocTap Victoria

25 Wilton Rd, Pimlico, London, SW1V 1LW

As part of your FIE application, you will be asked if you would like to register with DocTap and, if you agree, you will be registered before you arrive in London. FIE will only be able to see if you make an appointment, but all other information, such as the reason for the appointment, is fully confidential.

Most general GP appointments with DocTap cost £49, but prices will vary depending on the service that you access and treatment that you need.

As DocTap is a private GP, many insurance providers including FIE's group travel insurance provider Endsleigh, will not cover the costs of their services, so you will need to pay in full.

Emperor's Gate GP Surgery

This GP service is located just around the corner from Foundation House at the following address:

Emperor's Gate GP

1st Floor, 49 Emperor’s Gate, London, SW7 4HJ

FIE students can see a GP at Emperor's Gate on a private basis at a cost of £60 per appointment.

Appointments can be made by calling +44 (0)20 7244 5670. When making your appointment, state clearly that you are studying abroad with FIE: Foundation for International Education.

There is coverage for some private treament at Emperor's Gate under FIE's group travel insurance policy with Endsleigh. Before booking an appointment, call Endsleigh's Emergency Assistance Service on +44 (0) 1243 621 058 to check if your treatment will be covered.

Pharmacists are qualified professionals who can offer you advice and over-the-counter medications for a range of ailments. They are usually a good first port of call for minor illnesses as they can either offer you help straight away or refer you to a GP or other professional if your symptoms are more serious.

There are a number of pharmacies in the local area, but most students will use Boots, next to Gloucester Road station or the 24 hour pharmacy, Zafash, near Earl's Court:

Boots Pharmacy

128 Gloucester Road, London, SW7 4SF

Zafash Pharmacy (24 hours)

233 Old Brompton Road, London, SW5 0EA

Sexual health clinics are free, confidential and available to everyone. Most clinics can help you if you need contraception (including emergency contraception), Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) or Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) treatment, advice on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or support with pregnancy or abortion. Some sexual health services are also available from GPs, pharmacies and other health providers. The clinics below are all a short distance from the FIE Kensington Campus:

Dean Street

56 Dean Street, Soho, London, W16 6AQ

Hammersmith Broadway

10 Hammersmith Broadway, London, W6 7AL

Jefferiss Wing Sexual Health Clinic

St Mary's Hospital, Praed Street, London, W2 1NY

John Hunter Clinic for Sexual Health

We recommend having all routine dental treatment and check-ups done before departing for your study abroad program, but  emergency dental treatment is available in London, including from the dentists listed below. Some emergency dental treatment is covered by insurance policies, including FIE's group travel insurance policy with Endsleigh, but you must contact your insurer before seeing the dentist to confirm if coverage is available for treatment from the dentists listed or from another provider.

Chelsea Dental Spa

273 Old Brompton Road, London, SW5 9JA

Ghauri Dental Centre

247 Westbourne Grove, London, W11 2SE

You may have questions about travel insurance and medical coverage while abroad. Below, we explain our group travel insurance policy with Endsleigh with links to the most up to date policy documents and information on making a claim. We also share advice on what to do if you're not covered by Endsleigh.

FIE is an appointed representative of Endsleigh Insurance Services Limited, which is authorized and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. If you are studying with FIE on any of our programs in Dublin, London and/or Amman, you will be covered by FIE's group travel insurance policy with Endsleigh, unless this coverage has been waived by your home institution. If you’re unsure whether your institution is covered, please check with a study abroad advisor at your home institution.

The following documents are applicable to students studying with us in Summer and Fall 2021. It is your responsibility to read all of the policy documents carefully before the start of your program:

  1. Insurance Summary
  2. Statement of Insurance
  3. Policy Wording
  4. Additional Activity Coverage 1
  5. Additional Activity Coverage 2
  6. Privacy Policy

We recommend saving copies of the policy documents and the Endsleigh numbers to your phone. After reading the documents, you may find that you need more comprehensive coverage (e.g. if you need coverage for a pre-exisiting condition or for a sport or activity that isn't already covered). Should you need further coverage, you'll find some guidance in the ‘Not Covered by Endsleigh’ section below.

how to make a claim

You can make a claim with Endsleigh online or over the phone. However you claim, Endsleigh will guide you through the process, but if you need support, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

All FIE students are required to be covered by some form of medical insurance, either through their home institution or through FIE’s Endsleigh group policy. If you are unsure whether your home institution offers insurance coverage please check with your study abroad advisor or the relevant contact on your campus. Along with medical coverage, you should also ensure that you have appropriate coverage for other circumstances such as loss of personal possessions, travel delays etc. Click here for some helpful advice from Andy Steves Travel on how to select travel insurance.
