As a post-colonial nation, Ireland offers a unique perspective on conflict and reconciliation. Dublin’s political and cultural resources are used to explore conflict development and transformation, the nature of political leadership in conflict, and the significance of “memory” in conflict. Using Northern Ireland as a case study, students examine burning issues in contemporary conflict resolution and raise questions to be addressed in Amman during the second half of the program.

POSSIBLE STUDY TOURS AND EXCURSIONS

Comprehensive course excursions enrich your classroom experience. Excursions include: 

• Dublin - walking tours of local historical and political sites, Kilmainham Gaol, Glasnevin Cemetery, Howth day trip, Leinster House 
• Northern Ireland three-day excursion to Derry and Belfast - explore the historical epicenter of conflict in Ireland, with lectures on the University of Ulster campus, visits to the Bloody Sunday museum, and guest speakers from individuals intimately involved in the peace and conflict process.

In your free time, explore these unique cities at your leisure, taking in theater shows, museums, shopping, sporting events and nightlife.
