SGLC Presentation Proposal Form

Thank you for your interest in presenting at the Student Global Leadership Conference. We are pleased to consider proposals related to the conference's theme:

Leadership and Mental Health: Equal Opportunities to Thrive

Please visit our Student Global Leadership Conference webpage for more information about the conference, conference attendees, conference events, and suggested workshop topics.

The global need to address mental health and wellbeing has never before been so clear, or so urgent. Millions of people worldwide have mental health conditions and an estimated one in four people globally will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime (United Nations). During the first year of the pandemic, “estimates put the rise in both anxiety and depressive disorders at more than 25%” (World Mental Health Report, 2022, United Nations). The problem is not strictly, or even predominantly, an individual one – it is a social crisis.
Wider social issues such as poverty, racism, and sexism are of course linked to this crisis, often causing or exacerbating mental health issues. Now, perhaps more than ever, effective leadership must be built on a foundation of self-care and wellbeing Rethinking our collective attitudes, actions, and approaches to mental health is essential to ensure everyone has an opportunity to thrive.
FIE’s eighth Student Global Leadership Conference aims to inspire the leaders of tomorrow to foster environments, communities and workplaces conducive to optimal mental wellbeing.

This interdisciplinary conference brings together participants from all related fields, academic and professional and we encourage submissions from undergraduate and post graduate students. We are pleased to consider proposals for original papers, research, unique stories and experiences as our conference sessions.

In relation to our SGLC 2024 theme, topics may include but are not limited to:

• Leading on Mental Health Awareness in Education
• Technology and Mental Health
• Breaking the Barriers of Mental Health Stigma
• Cultivating Leadership Skills in Diverse Communities
• Leading by Example in Mental Health
• Community Leadership in the Mental Health Space
• The Role of Leadership in Improving Employee Mental Health
• The Psychological Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Leadership
