From day one, you’ll step into the energy of Madrid’s thriving startup and innovation ecosystem. The program places you at the heart of early-stage ventures and vibrant coworking hubs, immersing you in international work environments where your contributions matter. Every placement is startup-based and project-driven, no shadowing from the sidelines! You’ll collaborate in small teams of two to five interns to tackle genuine business challenges across three pathways: Venture Strategy & Operations; Marketing, Growth & Customer Development; or Product, Technology & Data. You’ll choose the area that aligns with your skills, academic background, and career goals, then put that knowledge into action. Placements are full-time (four days per week) and conducted in English, with Spanish skills considered a bonus. Availability reflects startup needs, ensuring each experience is timely, relevant, and impactful. This internship is designed for students who are ready to contribute, innovate, and grow.
academics
The academic component is anchored in FIE’s International Internship Course: Entrepreneurship in Practice. Before leaving for Spain students complete an online Venture Readiness & Professional Practice training course that prepares them for the expectations of a startup placement. This pre-departure component forms part of the overall academic framework and ensures students arrive prepared to contribute effectively. Once in Madrid, students continue the course primarily online while completing their internship. Weekly seminars provide structured faculty guidance, encouraging students to reflect critically on their workplace experiences through cultural, organizational and developmental perspectives. The curriculum emphasizes professional skill development, cultural competency and adaptability in global work settings. Students synthesize their learning through reflective assessments and the creation of an Online Career Portfolio which includes a refined career objective, personal brand statement, and résumé incorporating their internship experience.
