Orientation Week: Your Introduction to Life in Dublin

Your first week in Dublin is designed to help you settle in, build connections, and start making the most of your international experience from day one. Through a variety of orientation activities, the FIE Dublin Team will guide you through everything you need to know about living, studying, and thriving in Ireland's vibrant capital city.

Throughout the week, you'll attend a series of informative and interactive sessions covering student life, residential living, academics, health and safety, cultural adjustment, transportation, and much more. These orientation activities are an essential part of your transition abroad, providing valuable insights into Irish culture, academic expectations, and the practical aspects of daily life in Dublin.

For students participating in FIE's Internship Program, an additional Internship Orientation will provide specialized guidance on your placement site, workplace expectations, professional communication, and strategies for making the most of your international internship experience.

Housing & Neighbourhood Orientation

Your Dublin experience begins right where you'll be living. Following your residence hall welcome orientation, you'll embark on a brief walking tour of your new home away from home. We’ll also point out some nearby amenities like grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, public transportation stops, and other important local services. By the end of the walk, you'll feel more comfortable navigating your new surroundings and better prepared to settle into your Dublin home.

Welcome to Dublin Orientation

Led by the FIE Dublin Team, this comprehensive orientation day covers all the key information you'll need for a successful semester abroad. Topics include health and safety, academic expectations, transportation systems, student support services, and extracurricular activities. You'll also learn practical tips for adapting to Irish culture, managing day-to-day life abroad, and making the most of your time as an international student.

Academic Institution Orientation

As you begin your academic journey, you'll participate in an orientation at your host institution, whether that is University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, or Dublin Business School.

During this orientation, you'll become familiar with your campus, learn about academic resources and student services, receive your student identification card, and obtain your class timetable. Students attending Trinity College Dublin will also complete course registration during this session.

Day Trip to Howth

One of the highlights of Orientation Week is a memorable excursion to the beautiful seaside village of Howth, located just outside Dublin.

Known for its stunning coastal scenery, charming harbour, and famous cliff walks, Howth offers the perfect introduction to Ireland's natural beauty. Join fellow students for a scenic hike along the breathtaking cliffs, enjoy delicious local food, explore the village's unique shops and cafés, and keep an eye out for the friendly seals that often gather around the harbour!
