FIE: Foundation for International Education is pleased to announce the launch of itsnew SummerInternship Program in Madrid and Barcelona, delivered in partnership with theInterna, a specialist in immersive, project-based internships within Spain’s rapidly expanding entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem.
These programs place students at the heart of early-stage ventures, innovation hubs and collaborative workspaces across Barcelona and Madrid, where they contribute to real business challenges rather than observe from the sidelines. Placements are full-time, four days per week, conducted in English with Spanish language skills considered anadvantage.
Rather than applying by industry categories, students apply through project pathways, identifying the type of professional experience they are seeking and aligning their placement with their academic background and career goals. Placements are carefully matched based on skills alignment, host organization needs and program timing, ensuring students take on meaningful, contribution-focused roles within dynamic entrepreneurial teams.
The academic component is anchored in FIE’s International Internship Course: Entrepreneurship in Practice. Prior to arrival in Spain, students complete an online training course that prepares them for the expectations of a startup placement. Once in-country, structured seminars guide reflection, professional development, and integration of workplace learning.
Beyond the internship, students immerse themselves in Spain's vibrant cultural and social life whilst living in shared apartments with other students. FIE’s 24/7 onsite team organizes activities that encourage exploration of the city, connection with Spanish culture, and meaningful peer engagement.
In conjunction with the International Internship Conference (IIC), FIE will host a site visit in Madrid on Friday, June 12, 2026. This optional visit offers partners the opportunity to experience the program firsthand, including time with FIE’s onsite team, engagement with our academic partner, Universidad Nebrija, and insight into a startup internship placement.
