We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards to our website, electronic documents, and the digital platforms our students use.
Conformance Status
FIE: Foundation for International Education aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content and digital materials more accessible. Conformance with these guidelines helps make digital resources more user-friendly for all people.
While we strive to adhere to WCAG 2.1 AA standards, some content or features may not yet fully conform.
Accessibility Features
Our website and electronic documents are designed with the following features in mind:
- Sufficient color contrast between text and background elements
- Descriptive alt text for meaningful images
- Consistent navigation and page structure
- Clearly associated labels and buttons
- Electronic documents (Word, PowerPoint, and PDF) are structured with proper headings, reading order, and descriptive text to support assistive technologies
Electronic Files
Where students, staff and parents receive documentation electronically — including Word (.doc/.docx), PowerPoint (.ppt/.pptx), and PDF files — FIE endeavors to ensure these files are accessible. This includes:
- Using heading styles and logical reading order in Word documents
- Ensuring slide layouts and alt text are applied in PowerPoint presentations
- Producing tagged PDFs with selectable text, bookmarks, and accessible form fields where applicable
Third-Party and External Platforms
Students navigating their FIE experience may interact with external platforms such as Terra Dotta, CELCAT, Moodle, and others. While FIE does not control the accessibility of third-party platforms, we are committed to:
- Selecting and working with platform providers who take accessibility seriously
- Raising accessibility concerns with third-party vendors on behalf of our students
- Providing alternative support or workarounds where a platform presents a barrier that cannot be resolved directly
Known Limitations
We are aware that some areas of our site, document library, and third-party platforms may present accessibility challenges. We are working to address these as part of our ongoing improvement efforts. We appreciate your patience and feedback.
