For many students, studying abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It builds confidence, broadens perspectives, and develops skills that last well beyond university. But for some, the cost can make it feel out of reach.

Fund for Education Abroad
FIE is proud to be an Access Partner of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA), a non-profit organization that supports U.S. undergraduate students with financial need.
Students who apply to an eligible FIE program and submit an application to FEA can be considered for the FIE Access Partner Scholarship, with awards of up to $5,000 for semester programs and up to $3,500 for eligible summer programs. One application also allows students to be considered for other FEA scholarships for which they may be eligible.
Who Can Apply?
The Fund for Education Abroad supports U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who are undertaking credit-bearing study abroad programs. Eligibility includes U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and DACA recipients studying at U.S. higher education institutions, with financial need assessed using FAFSA information.
Students planning to study on an eligible FIE program in London, Dublin, Madrid, or Barcelona, as well as selected summer programs, may qualify for the Access Partner Scholarship.
Applications for the Winter and Spring 2027 scholarship cycle are now open.
The application deadline is Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM ET
Students are encouraged to begin their application early, allowing time to gather supporting documentation and prepare thoughtful application essays. FEA also provides guidance and writing workshops to help applicants submit their best applications.
FIE's Sharif Rahman Scholarships
Alongside our partnership with FEA, FIE also offers the Sharif Rahman Scholarships, created to support students who share our commitment to making a positive impact.
The Sharif Rahman Semester & Quarter Scholarship awards $3,000 to students studying in London, Dublin, Barcelona, or Madrid. Applicants choose one of three themes that reflect FIE's values: Diversity & Inclusivity, Environmental Responsibility, or Charity & Community, and explain how they will put the chosen theme into practice during their time abroad.
Students can also apply for the FIExplore Influencer Scholarship $3,000, which supports students with a passion for storytelling through writing, photography, video, or other creative content. The scholarship aims to amplify authentic student voices and encourage greater representation in study abroad by sharing authentic study abroad experiences from a diverse range of participants.
For students studying a STEM discipline at University College Dublin, the Dublin STEM Scholarship @ UCD also offers $3,000 in funding.
Applications for all three scholarships close on October 1 for Spring Semester and Winter Quarter programs (11:59 PM CST)
